Sāmoan leader says his people tricked
Veteran PM launches hostile attack on New Zealand's Muldoon & National Party
New Zealand cunningly tricked a Sāmoan government into signing a largely one-sided deal to give up an entitlement to New Zealand citizenship, former Sāmoan prime minister Tuila’epa Sa’ilele says.
In a written submission to the New Zealand parliament, Tuila’epa, who is the last surviving member of the 1982 Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) caucus that signed the deal, strongly attacks the New Zealand National Party government of Prime Minister Robert Muldoon.
His is one of 3105 submissions to parliament considering the Restoring Citizenship Removed by Citizenship (Western Sāmoa) Act 1982 Bill. Unlike other submitters, 79-year-old Tuila’epa, is also requesting a personal appearance before the Governance and Administration Committee.
